Days Until Christmas
Find out exactly how many days are left until Christmas Day. The countdown starts from today, and you can change the start date to plan ahead for any year.
Alongside the number of days you also get the count in weeks, the number of sleeps (nights) for kids who are counting down, and the weekday Christmas falls on.
How to use it
- Leave the date as today to see the live countdown.
- Or pick any other start date, for example the first day of December, to see how many days will be left then.
- Read the days, weeks and sleeps in the results box. They update as soon as you change the date.
How it works
Days until Christmas = December 25 minus the start date, counted in whole calendar days.
If the start date is already past December 25, the countdown moves on to Christmas of the next year. On Christmas Day itself the answer is 0.
The number of sleeps is the number of nights between the start date and Christmas morning, which is the same as the number of days. Weeks are the days divided by 7.
Worked example
| Count from | November 1, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Days until Christmas | 54 |
| In weeks | 7.7 |
| Sleeps until Christmas morning | 54 |
| Christmas Day falls on | Friday, December 25, 2026 |
Questions and answers
How many days are there until Christmas?
The calculator at the top of this page counts from today automatically. It shows the number of whole days from today to December 25, so on Christmas Eve it shows 1.
Does the countdown include today?
No. It counts the days between the start date and Christmas Day, so today is not counted. If you want to include today, add one to the result.
What is a sleep in the countdown?
A sleep is one night. Children often count the nights they have to sleep before Christmas morning. The number of sleeps is the same as the number of days.
What happens after Christmas has passed?
From December 26 onward the countdown starts again and counts to Christmas Day of the following year.
Can I count down to Christmas in a future year?
Yes. Choose a start date in that year and the tool counts to the Christmas Day that follows it.
